Software errors, backups, and liability: Please read section 5 on backups, section 15 on software errors, section 16 on exclusions and liability limits, and section 17 on third-party claims. These provisions affect your rights, subject to applicable law.
MarginDeck is provided by Jin Junhua, an individual based in China, under the MarginDeck name ("MarginDeck", "we", "us", or "our"). Contact: margindeck@proton.me. By downloading, purchasing, accessing, or using the MarginDeck app or website, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use MarginDeck.
The app is licensed for use; ownership of the software is not transferred. Your app license is governed by Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These Terms supplement that license and the App Store Usage Rules with information about our website, support, and product offerings. They do not override that license or any mandatory consumer rights.
MarginDeck helps you bring product revenue, costs, shared cost splits, estimated contribution profit, product signals, cash runway, and optional reference-rate estimates into one dashboard. It is a planning tool for understanding the business numbers you record or choose to sync.
MarginDeck is not a bank feed, payment processor, accounting ledger, bookkeeping service, tax preparation service, audit, valuation, payroll service, investment adviser, broker, lender, legal adviser, insurance adviser, or substitute for a qualified professional. "Contribution profit" means an operational estimate based on the costs you record and allocate; it is not accounting net income, taxable income, valuation, cash in bank, or a guarantee of future results.
Outputs depend on your entries, provider data, allocation choices, dates, currencies, refunds, fees, sync timing, reference rates, and calculation assumptions. ECB conversions are estimates based on published reference rates; they are not real-time, transaction, card-network, bank, accounting, tax, or settlement rates. Synced figures can be delayed, incomplete, adjusted, refunded, categorized differently, or inconsistent with a provider's final report. You are responsible for reviewing results before making business, financial, tax, legal, staffing, pricing, shutdown, or investment decisions.
Upcoming views and optional local reminders use the prices, schedules, Pause and Resume activity dates, stop dates, and cost splits you record. Pause and Resume change only MarginDeck's scheduled estimates and local reminders; they do not pause, resume, or cancel a real service with its vendor. MarginDeck does not confirm a bank or vendor charge or find renewals automatically.
In version 1.5, the optional menu bar brief summarizes saved records, including estimated contribution profit, revenue, scheduled costs and upcoming annual charges. The current month is still accumulating; its comparison uses the previous month's saved full-month figures. Opening the brief does not automatically sync or apply remote revenue. Revenue updates still use the app's existing sync and review process.
An optional weekly check-in reminds you to review your records; it is not a live financial report or continuous monitoring service. Closing the main window keeps the menu bar available when enabled; quitting exits the app. Notifications already scheduled with macOS may arrive while the app is closed, subject to notification permission, Focus settings and system delivery. Only a limited number of upcoming cost reminders can be scheduled at a time; opening MarginDeck lets it refresh later reminders. Automatic launch after logging in to your Mac is a separate setting.
You must be legally able to agree to these Terms and use MarginDeck. MarginDeck is intended for adults using it for personal business planning or internal business purposes. You may not use MarginDeck for consumer credit decisions, regulated financial advice, tax filings, public accounting reports, legal compliance determinations, or any purpose where inaccurate estimates could create legal, financial, safety, or regulatory harm without independent review.
Subject to these Terms and Apple's rules, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use MarginDeck on Apple-branded devices you own or control for your personal or internal business purposes. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
You may use MarginDeck to manage your own business, including products that compete with MarginDeck. You may not copy or modify protected software or content, distribute, resell, lease, host, or sublicense the app, reverse engineer it, decompile it, attempt to derive its source code, bypass technical restrictions, remove legal notices, impersonate MarginDeck, or use it unlawfully, except as permitted by your app license, applicable law, or applicable open-source licenses.
You retain ownership of the business data you enter, import, sync, calculate, export, or share through MarginDeck. This includes scheduled cost rules, billing terms, Pause and Resume activity history, planned-cost activity snapshots, reminder preferences, allocation history, manual revenue, monthly synced-revenue identity and mapping fields, aggregate net amounts, cash balances, settings, and saved notes. You are responsible for having the right to use connected accounts and data, obtaining required permissions, and checking the accuracy and completeness of the information you supply. These responsibilities do not transfer to you liability that we must bear under applicable law for software defects or our handling of data.
MarginDeck stores its primary dataset locally. Keep original business records and maintain separate backups appropriate to your business, including regular exports using Export Backup. If your Mac, user account, app container, local database, or exported backup is lost, damaged, overwritten, deleted, or inaccessible, we may not be able to recover your data. A backup may contain errors already present when it was exported; check important records against their original sources. These precautions do not exclude liability that we must bear under applicable law.
Do not place customer personal information, payment-card data, unrestricted API keys, OAuth tokens, passwords, government identifiers, payroll information, health data, confidential third-party data, or regulated financial account details into free-form fields or support messages. If you choose to enter or send such information, you are responsible for the resulting legal and security obligations.
RevenueCat and Stripe connections are optional and use accounts and credentials you control. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, policies, permissions, rate limits, API behavior, and availability. Providers may change or discontinue APIs, fields, authentication methods, reports, pricing, permissions, or data availability, which may cause a connection, sync, mapping, or calculation to stop working or produce different results.
Revenue sync is read-only. MarginDeck does not initiate payments, refunds, transfers, invoices, subscriptions, cancellations, tax filings, or other write operations in your RevenueCat or Stripe account. For Stripe, you must use a suitably restricted read-only key beginning with rk_. You are responsible for creating, limiting, protecting, rotating, and revoking provider credentials.
MarginDeck is not responsible for third-party services, provider data, provider downtime, provider security incidents, changes to provider terms, actions taken in your provider account, or your failure to configure restricted access correctly.
The Free plan supports one unarchived product. MarginDeck Pro Lifetime unlocks the Pro features shown in the app through a non-consumable one-time purchase from Apple. Your purchase permanently unlocks the local Pro features included in MarginDeck 1 at the time of purchase and includes 1.x updates. Future major versions or optional online services may be offered separately. Their pricing and payment model will be announced when available. This purchase does not automatically convert to a subscription.
Apple processes payment using your Apple ID. The app displays Apple's localized one-time price before purchase. Pro Lifetime does not renew and is not a subscription.
Apple processes payments and refund requests under its applicable rules. The final price, taxes, and purchase terms are shown before purchase. Pro Lifetime does not support Family Sharing. Restoring Pro requires a verified transaction that has not been revoked; a refund or revocation can remove Pro access. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Losing Pro access does not intentionally delete your existing local data, but creating additional products, restoring multi-product backups, or using Pro-only functionality requires a verified, non-revoked Pro Lifetime purchase.
TestFlight, Sandbox, beta builds, pre-release features, and screenshots can differ from the final App Store release. Beta features may be incomplete, unstable, time-limited, or removed. Do not rely on a beta build as your only business record.
We may add, change, suspend, restrict, or discontinue features to maintain security, comply with law, respond to provider changes, manage costs, or improve the product. Such changes do not remove rights granted for purchased local Pro features or rights required by applicable law. We do not promise that every provider connection, platform, language, region, price, or external service will always be available, or that every future macOS version will be supported.
You agree not to misuse MarginDeck, bypass purchase or product limits, interfere with security or operation, access non-public systems without authorization, probe for vulnerabilities without permission, use automated access that bypasses restrictions or disrupts the website, transmit malware, abuse support channels, violate provider terms, infringe rights, misrepresent MarginDeck outputs, or use the app for unlawful or regulated advice. Ordinary search indexing that follows our published access rules is permitted. Permission to access public pages does not grant additional rights to copy protected content or use it for model training.
Exported backup files are unencrypted JSON. Backup format v5 may contain products, scheduled cost rules, billing terms, Pause and Resume activity history, planned-cost activity snapshots, reminder preferences, allocation history, manual revenue, monthly synced-revenue identity and mapping fields, aggregate net amounts, cached ECB reference rates, cash balances, workspace and display settings, and saved notes. OAuth tokens, Stripe keys, App Store transaction data, analytics consent, analytics identifiers, system notification permission status, and pending notification request identifiers are excluded. You are responsible for storing, encrypting, transmitting, deleting, and restoring backups safely. Restoring a backup can replace your current local dataset after confirmation. Review backups before importing or sharing them.
If you send us a backup, screenshot, screen recording, support attachment, sample dataset, or crash detail, we use it as needed to respond to your request, diagnose and fix the issue, investigate security or abuse, and meet legal obligations. Retention and deletion follow our Privacy Policy. Sending these materials does not grant permission to publish them or use them in marketing. Remove secrets and sensitive third-party information before sending files.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. By using MarginDeck, you acknowledge that local-first storage, optional provider connections, App Store purchases, support messages, and website hosting involve different data flows and responsibilities. Accepting these Terms does not enable optional usage analytics. Analytics requires a separate choice in the app.
Optional app usage analytics in version 1.5 is off by default and can be disabled in Settings. It is not required to use Free or purchased Pro features. The Privacy Policy describes the events sent to TelemetryDeck and how to withdraw consent.
MarginDeck, including its software, design, branding, documentation, website, text, graphics, workflows, and other materials, is owned by Jin Junhua / MarginDeck or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use the MarginDeck name, logo, trade dress, screenshots, or marketing materials in a misleading way or in a way that implies endorsement without permission.
If you voluntarily send general suggestions, ideas, or feature requests, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them to evaluate, develop, improve, and support MarginDeck without compensation. This permission does not cover publication or marketing use of your messages, name, support attachments, or confidential business records. Any such use requires your separate, explicit permission for the material and channels involved. You retain ownership of your materials, and personal information remains subject to the Privacy Policy.
You may stop using MarginDeck at any time. We may suspend access to features we operate or terminate this license if you materially violate these Terms, misuse the service, create legal or security risk, interfere with providers, or if required by law or Apple. Apple controls App Store purchase and refund processes.
Upon termination, your license to use MarginDeck ends, but provisions that by their nature should survive will survive, including ownership, user responsibilities, payment terms, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, dispute terms, and privacy-related provisions.
Warranties for the licensed app are governed by Apple's Standard EULA and applicable law. For our website and support services outside that license's scope, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we provide them "as is" and "as available", without express, implied, or statutory warranties of accuracy, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, data preservation, or quiet enjoyment. We do not guarantee that estimates will match accounting records, tax records, provider reports, bank balances, or future outcomes. Section 16's mandatory-law exceptions apply.
Software defects can cause records to be incorrect, lost, or corrupted, and calculations or displayed results to be wrong. These risks can arise even when your entries and provider data are correct. Independently check important results against original records before making financial or business decisions. Describing a result as an estimate does not mean that a software error is an intended calculation assumption. The app license and applicable law govern responsibility for defects and resulting losses.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, rights, or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.
Liability for the licensed app, including software defects, data loss, and resulting losses, is governed by Apple's Standard EULA and applicable law. The following exclusions and cap apply only to our website and support services to the extent they fall outside that license. Subject to the exceptions below and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits, revenue, savings, business opportunities, or goodwill to the extent those losses are indirect or consequential. Data loss and reasonable data-recovery costs are not automatically treated as indirect losses; any liability for direct loss remains subject to applicable law and any enforceable cap below.
For the website and support services described above, to the maximum extent permitted by law and subject to the exceptions below, our aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for MarginDeck during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or US$50. This cap does not replace or add to the app license's liability cap for matters within that license's scope.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit. This includes liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury, or breach of statutory data-protection duties where applicable law prohibits the exclusion or limit. Mandatory consumer rights and remedies remain unaffected. Some jurisdictions do not allow particular exclusions or caps, so those provisions may not apply to you.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you must compensate us for third-party claims and reasonable, legally recoverable costs caused by your unlawful conduct, infringement of third-party rights, or intentional misuse of MarginDeck, but only to the extent attributable to your conduct. Lawful use, ordinary business decisions, or entering or sharing data do not by themselves create this obligation. You are not required to compensate us for the portion of any loss attributable to our software defects, negligence, or breach of law, or to take over our legal defense.
We may update these Terms for product, legal, provider, App Store, pricing, or security reasons. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate. Changes apply prospectively unless required by law. If you do not agree to an update, stop using MarginDeck.
The app license governs disputes within its scope. For disputes concerning the website or support services, applicable law and the competent court are determined under the rules that otherwise apply; these Terms do not select an exclusive court or require arbitration. You may contact margindeck@proton.me to seek an informal resolution, but doing so is not a prerequisite to exercising legal rights. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and applicable Apple terms, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding MarginDeck. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them as part of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset transfer, or legal transition of MarginDeck.
